Flip flops of Imran Khan (English version) Rakshak News 05 Sep 19
There is something amiss in Pakistan. Comments coming from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, are varied and at times illogical. Imran continues to rant and rave on Kashmir in multiple platforms almost daily. He regularly ratchets about nuclear war, which will impact the world and hence desires that world powers compel India to change its decision. In the same breath he directs his foreign and human rights ministers to write to every organ of the UN stating that human rights in Kashmir are being violated. To prove their point, they even quote Indian opposition politicians.
In one statement he mentions that the world is ignoring Kashmir for better economic ties with India. The next moment he states that the world is paying heed to Kashmir. Imran publishes an op-ed in the New York Times warning the world of consequences of Indian actions. At the same time, he also mentions that there will be no talks with India unless it reverses its decision, despite there being no mention of talks from India, indirectly hinting that he is desperate for talks. He also appoints himself as the spokesperson for Kashmir.
His foreign minister in an interview to the BBC mentions four conditions for talks with India. Despite all war mongering his government continues to engage with India on the Kartarpur corridor, while scaling down diplomatic relations. This is because it hopes to utilise the corridor to push forth its Khalistan agenda.
His desperation makes him state in a national address that all Pakistanis should stop work and stand in solidarity for Kashmir for 30 minutes on every Friday, which had only positive response from government offices and schools, where it could be forcibly enforced. With India not even responding to all his dramatics, Imran has now begun tweeting on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) released in Assam. In this case he is indicating support to minorities.
For those following his flip-flops it may appear that Imran is being illogical in his views. This may not be true. He is under intense military and national pressure to deliver. All his actions are coming to naught. The international community has stood by India and ignored him and his ministers’ rantings. Even Pakistan’s close allies are alongside India.
Economically the nation is moving downhill. The FATF review is moving close, leaving Pak with the only option of seeking additional time to overcome its shortcomings. In the valley, with internet blocked, the level and nature of protests are subdued. The world community and international bodies have ignored his calls and no nation has even spoken to India on Kashmir.
The army, with whose support he holds the chair has not succeeded in pushing in militants to the desired levels as it fears down gradation in the forthcoming FATF meet. Militants inducted would be told to lie low till late Oct, once the FATF conclave ends, hence his railway minister, Sheik Rashid talks of a war in Oct/Nov. The UN General Assembly meets in end September and by then, if Kashmir remains normal, Imran would be left in the cold. He is afraid to go down in history and the second failed Niazi, the first having lost East Pakistan and Imran Khan Niazi having lost Kashmir.
He is aware that there is no military solution to Kashmir. His only option is to continuously raise the Kashmir bogey hoping international pressure mounts on India. He is aware that a wrong militant action can prove to be devastating for Pak, hence, to safeguard Pak, claims India may attack Pak. Imran had recently given a three-year extension to Bajwa, removing the only power which he held over the army.
Now the gun is clearly in Bajwa’s hands. He may not seek to take over the country but may consider relieving Imran in case his theatrics fail. There are many waiting in the side lines, Qureshi in the lead. Imran therefore must deliver, by hook or crook. With each passing day the threat looms closer. He will have time till the UN General Assembly meets. If he has not been able to garner support by then, he could be on the way out.
In Pak history, no Prime Minister has ever retired and led a peaceful life. They either end up behind bars, are killed or hanged. Imran could find himself in a similar spot soon. The desperation and ranting flowing from Imran indicates his struggle for survival. India should only ignore him.
